A Word to those who go

<< back

It is a great adventure to join a short-term or ongoing missionary outreach. But you must only become

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news! (Isaiah 52:7)
involved in an outreach action if you have prayed about it, and know that it is good and pleasing to the Lord that you should go. It is important to be clear about motives. The prospect of new experiences, seeing new places, or meeting different people can be alluring. But that is no reason for going. You should only go to serve the Lord – telling how wonderful He is, and sharing his message. Your attitude should be a willingness to serve and learn: God wants to use you, and will do so, if you are willing to make yourself available. You should only consider involvement in missions if you are already active in service at your local church.

You will really need prayer support.

Do not make the decision to become involved in such an outreach on your own. Share your desire with fellow-Christians – and, specifically, with your pastor, minister or spiritual leader – and ask for their advice and guidance. If you are young, then get your parent's approval.

You will really need prayer support when you go – and so it would be good to arrange a small group of intercessors for yourself and your outreach, to continually bring you before the Lord. Ask for an opportunity to tell your congregation that you are going and also give them feedback when you return.

If God wants you there,

He'll provide

If you need financial support, be wise! Remember that fellow-believers are not obliged to support you. Often it is better to simply make known the fact that you are in need of support, rather than to ask for money directly. If you have your own funds, or can earn them (for example, by taking a job for the holidays) use them first, prior to making any need known. Do not get into debt: if God wants you on an outreach, He will provide.

God bless you!

We hope you are exci ted about how the Lord will use you!
