Inserv Research and Training:
MISSION RESEARCH & TRAINING
To enhance and equip the church/organizations with information, research training and consultation in strategic planning for effective outreach programmes in urban and rural church planting/evangelism, short and long-term outreach among the unreached people groups, in (especially, but not limited to) Southern Africa.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Inserv’s research involvement commenced about ten years ago. Apart from commissioned research, our work up to date include the compilation of comprehensive reports on the Yao, Makwe and several coastal people groups in Mozambique. General literature research was also done on a number of other unreached people groups from Southern Africa. In addition we have contributed towards facilitating the involvement of various churches and mission organizations in working among these people groups.
The last four years we helped facilitate the South African national research project (a project of the South African National Research Network) whose aim was to look at missions in the new South Africa. The result of this project was the publication of the “No Quick fixes” book.
RESEARCH TRAINING
We are aware that to merely do research ourselves will have little effect in reducing the amount of work in reaching the unreached. We want to share the knowledge we gained with others to assist them to do their own research and become more effective in their outreach efforts and ministry.
The Research course has been presented in other countries in Southern Africa, students from all over Africa, Bible colleges, mission organizations, churches and individuals who are contemplating to work among the unreached but also in their local communities.
We see this research as a combination of three important elements: SPIRITUAL (Praying and discerning), DATA (Searching and sorting) and STRATEGY (evaluating and strategizing). We believe one learns doing research by doing research. Therefore we present the materials in such a way that participants learn the principles by applying them to the area or target group that they want to reach. We try to tailor our course presentation to match as closely as possible the needs of those attending.
Subjects include for example: Biblical perspective on research, Research process, Goal setting, Interviews, Documentation, Interpretation, Participant observation, Culture, Planning a strategy, Writing a research project proposal etc.
